Contemporary Brickplayer - Kits A, B and C
Contemporary Brickplayer was Spears' major revision of Brickplayer in 1959, providing components and plans for
more modern-looking buildings. Bricks, doors, windows and roofs were all redesigned - see the
Brickplayer components page. This was quite forward-thinking, because the resulting style
is what I associate these days with the 1960s.
Instructions and blueprints
An instruction booklet entitled "Contemporary Brickplayer Kit
Building Manual" provided quite detailed instructions to build 12 models.
The smallest Kit A had only enough components for models 1 to 3, with Kit B having components for models 1 to 6.
To build the full set of 12 models the much larger Kit C was needed.
Whereas Early Brickplayer
and Standard Brickplayer offered upgrade kits
(Kit 1A to upgrade from Kit 1 to Kit 2, and Kit 3A to go from Kit 3 to Kit 4), I have never seen
reference to any upgrade kits being available for Contemporary Brickplayer.
Kits always contained blueprints showing how to lay the first course of bricks. The blueprints
for Contemporary Brickplayer models are here
Pictures of Kit A
I have a "completed" Kit A, meaning that when I acquired the kit it was incomplete but I have added
all the missing components and laid them out as I think the original kit would have looked.
The bricks and windows would originally have been sealed in cellophane packages, and I have
recreated these by wrapping bricks in readily-available "florist's cellophane".

I have a pristine Kit B, meaning that it is complete and unused with all elements still sealed.

Pictures of Kit C
I have a Kit C that has been completed with the addition of missing components. Some packs of bricks
were still in their original wrapping, and I have wrapped the other packs. I believe that the
kit has been reconstructed close to how the original would have looked. All components are present
and in excellent condition, even the window glazing sheet, except that the two shop signs have letters missing.
